If a movie is essentially built around music and throwbacks and is constantly playing hits you know that the finale is going to include an amazing song as well. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is a very family and father based movie. Viewers should of honestly seen this song choice coming in the end because the title of this song fits the movie drama very well. A lot of people refer to their ancestors as their "family chain" therefore this songs title is already playing into the main problems of this film and is played during the scene where our main character Quill finally understands the true motive behind his fathers love/attention that he has been giving him. This leads up to a scene where Quill and all of his friends and family are about to be killed including himself. In this scene he finds the courage and strength to stand back up and fight his father therefore freeing his friends and family and millions of others from certain death. This song represents this by the lyrics involved that state "... if you don't love me now, you will never love me again, I can still hear you sayin, you would never break the chain..." This pays homage to the fact that Quill's father never truly loved him and was only using him for his powers and the song is literally calling out what Quill must be feeling and thinking at this time. This is especially true because now since Quill knows his father doesn't truly love him he is able and strong enough to fight back against his abusive father and eventually win getting rid of him and the threat to millions all at the same time.
