Austin Schoppe
Below are a few videos I edited and created along with a brief description of each.
The videos, to the right, include some of the work I created with the West Allegheny Football and Track Program. I completed many different and complex tasks to capture and edit this type of content. Some of the elements include capturing Drone shots, GoPro footage, editing and mixing songs, and telling a compelling narrative with both short-form and long-form content. I have grown more comfortable in editing using each video I create as a foundation to build and design more complex projects. This type of media allows me to be creative with different elements of video and sound. Some examples include manipulating color in a scene, mixing music, and playing with angles and transitions. This realm has allowed me to expand my knowledge, thoroughly enjoy creating content, telling a story, and growing as a media professional.
This video, to the right, was one of my projects in college where I had to blend two different types of media into one another while telling the same story . This project was challenging, fun, and taught me a lot about effective story telling. It showed me how a simple cut or audio transition can contribute so much to a story. This project was a blast and expanded my knowledge of storytelling and blending. Enjoy the cocktail!
Attached, to the right, is one of my final projects in class where I partnered with a classmate to write a script, interview people, record and master audio, and develop a narrative about a topic; which in this case was "Rocky The Lion," the mascot for Slippery Rock University. This project taught me the importance of audio levels and audio story telling. This project was challenging since primarily being a video editor, and having to take out the video aspect and rely completely on audio was a challenge. However, developing this skill set only motivated me and allowed me to truly listen to every sound byte with precision and accuracy. This project helped me grow as an editor and storyteller.
Slippery Rock University Projects
To the right is a collection of my projects from Slippery Rock University. For the "Interview with Rocky" I was interviewed for being the mascot for the university in our TV studio which then was recorded live using a tri-caster. This experience gave me a lot of respect and understanding for live TV and the interviewing genre of media. For the "PSA" assignment we were given a script in our Radio Production class and we were tasked with Recording, Mastering, and Editing audio clips to try and replicate a public service announcement you may hear on the radio. We used Adobe Audition to create this track and while doing so my partner and I gained a better understanding of what goes into a simple 30 second PSA.
